Algarve was the area of many vacations, when the kids were small. Albufeira, Armação de Pera, Faro, Oura, Monte Gordo, Altura, Vau (in Portimão) were places where we spent several weeks. Sagres, Lagos, Tavira, Olhão, Cacela, Vila Real de Santo António, Alcoutim, Silves, Manta Rota, Praia da Luz and other, only short (some frequent) visits. Odeceixe, in the west coast, is the chosen place by one of my best friends to buy a house. Excellent beaches, but too much built, too many tourists, and as it was possible to go further, that was my preference recently.
