Zone of bullfights, wine and folklore, this district is only now stepping towards tourist exploitation (Fatima apart), and it has much to show.
Tomar is the top wonder, but the Romanic of Santarém deserves more attention. Torres Novas, Rio Maior, Dornes are good visits too, as, if you like details, Alcanede, Alcobertas, Almeirim, Benavente, Sardoal, Ribeira de Santarém, Cartaxo, Ferreira do Zêzere, or Vila Nova da Barquinha may be good stops.
Dancing took me to almost every corner of the district. Entroncamento is the capital of dance (and trains), but dance showed me also Amiais, Anteporta, Benfica do Ribatejo, Moçarria, Pego, Riachos and São Vicente do Paul.
Arrouquelas is special - wine harvesting amidst friends, and Porto Alto the wholesaler of China.
